For Referring Providers

We specialize in EMDR-based trauma treatment for adults, teens, and children. Every clinician is trained to the same clinical standard. This page gives you what you need to refer with confidence.

Inside Out is well-suited for clients whose presentations require trauma-informed, nervous system-level care beyond what generalized therapeutic approaches provide. We welcome provider-to-provider conversations before a referral is made.

Who we work with and what we specialize in

WITHIN OUR SCOPE

  • Complex and developmental trauma, including early relational and attachment trauma

  • PTSD presentations that have not resolved with supportive or cognitive-behavioral approaches

  • Dissociative symptoms including depersonalization, derealization, and presentations on the dissociative spectrum

  • OCD alongside trauma, where trauma is the underlying driver

  • High-functioning anxiety rooted in relational history or chronic nervous system dysregulation

  • Narcissistic abuse recovery and attachment disruption

  • First responders, healthcare professionals, and military-adjacent clients with cumulative occupational trauma

  • Children and teens navigating anxiety, behavioral dysregulation, or adverse childhood experiences

  • Perinatal and postpartum presentations including mood disruption and birth trauma

OUTSIDE OUR SCOPE

  • Active substance use disorders as primary presenting concern

  • Eating disorders as primary presenting concern

  • Court-mandated clients

  • Clients requiring higher level of care than weekly outpatient therapy

If a client presents with these concerns alongside a trauma history, we are happy to discuss whether a co-treatment or referral model makes sense.

Who your client will be working with

Christina Behrens, MA, LPC

Founder + Clinical Director · Advanced EMDR · Dissociative Disorders · OCD

Clients referred to Inside Out are matched with the clinician whose specialty and approach is the best fit for their presentation. Every clinician on our team is trained in EMDR through the same instructor, grounded in Francine Shapiro's foundational model. You are not referring to whoever is available. You are referring to a practice with a consistent clinical standard across the entire team.

Our clinical director, Christina Behrens, MA LPC, holds advanced training in dissociative disorders and OCD alongside her EMDR certification. For referrals involving significant complexity or dissociative presentations, please flag that when you reach out and we will ensure the right match is made.

When you contact us, we will help identify the right clinician for your client's presentation before the referral is made.

Primary modality

EMDR

Evidence-based trauma processing grounded in Francine Shapiro's foundational model. Every clinician trained to the same standard.

Complementary approaches

Sand Tray + Animal-Assisted Therapy

Sand tray for children and adults. Liberty, a Great Dane service dog in training, is present during sessions with Christina Behrens and responds to physiological distress.

Integrative frameworks

ACT, Person-Centered, Existential

Used alongside EMDR to address values, meaning, and relational patterns. Tailored to each client, not applied as a fixed protocol.

Liberty — Service Dog in Training

Animal-assisted therapy

Liberty is a Great Dane service dog in training who is present during sessions with our clinical director. She is trained to detect physiological changes and responds with grounding physical presence before a word has been said.

For clients whose nervous system activation makes verbal processing difficult, Liberty provides an immediate, non-verbal point of regulation. There is no equivalent offering in the West Valley.

Her presence is always optional and entirely at the client's comfort level. Clients with allergies or sensitivities can request she remain in the office for their session.
